Primary Functions:

Cadet Instructor plans, coordinates and instructs programming for members of the Brigade within areas, such as Regimental Discipline, Drills, Education, Health & Life Skills, Character & Leadership, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education. Programs should promote development of member’s physical and social skills and be adaptable to youth. Cadet Instructor works under the guidance and supervision of the Training Academy Commandant, assists and oversees academy functions in areas of Visions Scanning program, academy cleanliness, role modeling, programming and special events. In addition to this Cadet Instructors play the role of Safety and Security Marshals and is responsible for the promotion, assistance and implementations of Safety and Security initiatives in both schools and communities.
Key Roles Essential Job Responsibilities:


Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes and the training outcomes of the National Interschool Brigade through its Regimental Training Academies:
Register new members and participate in their Brigade orientation process Promote and stimulate program participation
Teach age-appropriate skills in a progressive sequence
Run organized and well executed classes
Incorporate diverse activities into lessons
Develop relationships with all members, avoid playing favorites
Actively involved with all members, not sitting or disengaged
Connect the Brigade values to the activities in a developmentally appropriate manner
Promote theme days or group traditions to help members feel united as a group
Help all members make friends and enjoy the experience
Display appropriate behavior (action and language) around members, parents, and staff
Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Brigade at all times.
Carry out all lawful instructions of the RTA Commandant.

Ensure that positioning in the trainings allows for constant supervision of the maximum amount of members
The supervision, safety, and well-being of all members, whether in large or small groups, at all times (on/off site)
Account for all members, take attendance at the beginning of every program, and follow check-in/out
Provide guidance and role modeling to members
Resolve disciplinary problems appropriately, complete Incident Reports as needed
Demonstrate good judgment
Ensure that the standards, principles and expectations of the National Interschool’s Brigade are held in high regards

Demonstrate responsibility in regard to work schedule, meetings & trainings
Keep equipment and supplies in order, well maintained, and in the proper location
Complete and submit paperwork accurately (timesheets, lesson plans, certifications, etc.)
Dress in appropriate attire/uniform at all times
Maintain a positive attitude while working, help wherever needed, work well with co-workers
Display good customer service skills
Accept feedback and makes necessary corrections
Follow all the National Interschool’s Brigade policies and procedures

Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by Brigade High Command
Participates in weekly staff development workshop
Constantly upgrading yourself in areas of Brigade work
Ensure that all required personal documentations are up to date at all times.
Maintain close, daily contact with members, parents, staff (professional and volunteer), and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and explain guidelines/instructions established.

Enlist external community agencies and parents to assist in implementation of specialized program activities


Must have a clean criminal record
High School Diploma/ Certificate
Experience in working with children and adults
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
Ability to deal with the general public
Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to be creative and work with or without supervision
Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 3 month of employment
Previous regimental experience an asset
